Chinese export carved hardwood suite. Hong Kong circa 1960s 3 Seater and two matching armchairs All,heavily carved in relief with dragon and qilin motifs among clouds, the pierced crests surmounted with sinuous dragons, the arms carved as stylised dragon heads, the legs terminating in claw feet. The seat and back with fitted cushions upholstered in red silk brocade, embroidered with pomegranates, blossoms and fruiting branches, symbolising abundance and fertility. Constructed in richly grained hardwood, likely rosewood (hongmu) with dense heavy structure The qilin signifies goodwill,,benevolence, gentleness and integrity. The qilinim thicalmcreature that brings good luck and symbolizes prosperity.
