Muscovy Ducklings

These ducklings were hatched by their mothers and are very healthy and hardy, as they have been reared outside since hatching. They are now five weeks old and so are able to keep each other warm without additional heat. The Muscovy is an unusual breed in that the ducks are very good at sitting on their own eggs and rearing their young ones themselves. They are also very friendly and can quickly become tame enough to feed from the hand, although their favorite pastimes are trimming grass like geese, rootling about for insects and gobbling up slugs! They don't scratch in the earth like chickens so are more garden friendly and are great fun for kids to rear. Duck's eggs are richer than chicken's and so are recommended for baking richer cakes and pastries, and this breed puts on a significantly greater quantity of meat than a typical supermarket duck or even goose!
