At 22 inches (560 mm) long, it is specifically designed for flattening long boards and jointing straight edges before gluing. An effective plane at a fraction of the cost of a Stanley no 8 or even the cheapest machine jointer. Service tree wood [Sorbus torminalis]) is one of the hardest, densest, and most valuable native hardwoods in Europe. Because it is very slow-growing and rare, the wood is highly scarce, Premium plane makers like Ulmia attach a thin Cormier sole to their beechwood planes. This plane is entirely Cormier wood.
