Socketed Squaring Axe

A very rare axe for converting logs into square beams as shown in the 15th century manuscript illustration. In very good condition the broad cutting edge is very sharp. The firewelded socket and 1m wooden handle are in good shape. These continued to be used for timber frame houses in rural France up until the 19th century.
