Portlaoise Auction Year in Review Part 1

As we start into the new year we take a look back at prices achieved at our auctions back in 2025. Over 10,000 lots went under the hammer in 2025 including a number of special dispersal sales on behalf of farmers across Ireland. In this post we will take a look at some of our top lots sold in 2025 and in a second post over the coming days we will look at another 100 lots sold over the course of last year. Trade was very strong for clean well maintained equipment in 2025 regardless of age with choice farmer owned lots commanding premium prices. Bigger contractor equipment with high acres/hours proved to be a tough trade but its moving at a price as options are limited to sell this type of larger equipment with dealers reluctant to take these type of trade ins. Modern tractors (less than 15 years old) with 10,000+ hours continue to be a tough trade but they are also moving at a price. Farmer owned tractors with reasonable hours for age on the clock are a great trade once they have a good service history and are on good rubber. The bomb proof modern classics around 20-30 years of age with high hours are selling well with both collector interest and farmers seeking to buy old reliable models. The outlook for 2026 remains positive for clean second hand equipment as new machinery prices remain high.
