BMW R 65 1980

I'm selling my 1980 BMW R65 (twin shock) The R65 is one of BMW's classic airheads, an air-cooled boxer (opposed twin) with shaft drive, simple mechanics and easy to maintain. It's a relatively light example of the older BMW boxer range, while still feeling very much like a proper classic BMW. It has great low-down torque and a low centre of gravity, which makes it lovely on back roads and on longer cruising spins. As a bonus, this one comes with (the optional) dual front discs. This bike was commissioned to be brought to Ireland by Hiro Imports in 2024. Like most BMW airheads of the time, it has dual Bing carbs (3030/3040, not the impossible to tune flatheads), which have been fully rebuilt with new jets, springs, and diaphragm in 2024. I fully serviced once I bought it, with new oil filter, engine oil, air filter, gearbox oil, shaft and drive oils replaced according to BMW's specs. I've also replaced the choke assembly and choke cables. It also has a new brake master cylinder, as the original one was leaking. It still has the same old tyres, but I have a new set (Metzeler Perfect)I over here which I haven't fitted yet. They'll be supplied with the bike as part of the deal. The bike also comes with a pannier rack and original BMW panniers and mountings. I will also supply all the spare parts I have, such as spark plugs, new leads and whatnot. As much as I love this bike, I haven't used it enough to justify having it here. With only a few hundred KMs put on it since 2024 and a new baby on the way, I think it's time someone else gets a chance to keep this beauty on the road.
