1967 Mercedes Benz 300SE Coupe (for restoration)

Rare Mercedes Benz 300SE Coupe for sale as a restoration project. This car sits on the W112 chassis (not the W111 used for the 220, 250 & 280 models) and has air suspension. It is a LHD car, having been originally destined for the US market. The car spent most of its life in California, being imported into Ireland in 2006. It is a column shift 4-speed automatic. This model was manufactured from 1962-67 & only 2,400 were produced. The original M189.980 3.0L 6-cylinder engine is damaged & needs to be replaced. Parts for this engine are nearly impossible to source, hence repair is not recommended. The M189 engine was released in 1957, so by the time that this car was manufactured (1967), it was reaching the end of its production life. The recommended replacement engine is the M130.980 2.8L 6-cylinder engine, which was released in 1967 and continued in production through to 1976. Second hand examples are readily available (e.g. on ebay.de). Despite being a slightly smaller nominal volume (2.8L vs 3.0L), both engines produced the same output (170 hp). The car was garaged until 2021. Unfortunately, I lost access to that & it has been stored outside since. Hence, as can be seen from the photos, the car will require a full respray & the bumpers will require rechroming. Good examples of these cars routinely fetch €40-50k. Reluctantly selling as it’s a project beyond my ability to take forward.
