Description

1984 Triumph Acclaim, superb modern classic in amazing condition Viewing 7 days by timed appointment, help with shipping anywhere in the UK or Ireland. Call Harry 0739 44444 80 www.cherryvalleycarsandclassics.co.uk Reliable, fun to drive, nippy and economical. its Honda running gear made it pleasant to drive like no other BL car of the time. She really is in excellent condition throughout, drives exactly as it should, and the odometre reads just 59,390 miles, which given the condition of the car, I believe to be correct. Currently MOT’d to August 2024 and has covered just 300 miles since then. Launched in 1981, the Acclaim replaced the ageing Dolomite and was based on a Honda Ballade. Well, it was effectively was a Honda Ballade with a different badge and a few tweaks here and there. Powered by a Honda-designed 1.4-litre engine, it was fitted with twin-carbs (as opposed to the single carb on the Ballade) and came with an extra 10bhp. With a power output of 70bhp, Autocar clocked the Acclaim making 60mph from standstill in 12.9 seconds with a top speed of 84mph. Fuel economy wasn't too bad, either 32mpg. While only one engine was available in the range, there were a few trim levels. The basic L, the HL and HLS, plus the top of the range CD (chrome bumpers, headlight washers). The Acclaim was a good car to drive, though - its Honda running gear made it pleasant to drive and reliable like no other BL car of the time. Please don’t compare her to a modern car. She’s 40 years old, and there may be imperfections, blemishes & age related wear & tear in there somewhere, even if not apparent on first viewing. It is inevitable that some degree of tinkering may be required even to a car in this condition. Owning a classic car is a hobby & you will spend time & money in ongoing care & maintenance, this is part of the joy of owning a classic car.
