Ferrari 308 GTB (1 of only 211)

We’ve owned a couple of 308s over the years, and for us, this is still the sweet spot of the entire range. A 1979 steel-bodied GTB, with the carburettor-fed V8 and desirable dry-sump engine. It’s also one of just 211 UK-market RHD steel-bodied carburettor GTBs produced. Finished exactly as you’d want one, in Rosso Corsa with Nero leather, it’s a beautiful car in the flesh. It was repainted in its original colour in 2016 and still presents extremely well today. But the real attraction with this one is how it drives. We’ve just completed a 550-mile journey in the car and it was absolutely superb. Mechanically it feels spot on – tight, smooth, properly sorted and exactly how a good 308 should feel. The carburettor cars have a character and soundtrack that the later injected cars simply don’t quite replicate, and once those four Weber 40 DCNFs are opened up, it’s a very special thing. A huge amount of the important work has already been done. In 2021 the suspension was comprehensively overhauled, including Koni shock absorbers, springs, bushes, seals and bearings. The brakes were also overhauled, cambelts replaced and an upgraded air-conditioning compressor fitted. The gearbox was serviced in May 2026, followed by a full engine service and another cambelt change in July 2026. It has now covered just 35,612 miles, supported by an excellent history going right back to its 500-mile service at Maranello Ferrari in 1980. And this isn’t a low-mileage Ferrari that’s afraid of being driven. In June 2026 its previous owner drove it from the UK to the Ferrari factory in Maranello and back – 2,381 miles without issue. Add our recent 550-mile trip and it says a lot about how well sorted this car is. Factory air conditioning, original handbooks and service books, manuals, tool roll and jack are all present, along with a substantial history file. The interior is particularly lovely, with beautifully preserved Nero leather, and underneath the car is equally impressive. There’s something about an early carburettor 308 GTB that Ferrari never quite recreated. The noise, steering, gated gearbox and compact dimensions make these an event at normal road speeds. A beautiful, properly maintained and genuinely usable example of what we think is one of the best versions of the 308.
