Overview
Description
Finding a genuine Sierra RS500 Cosworth is special enough, but Chassis #007 is one of the very first of the 500 homologation specials converted by Aston Martin Tickford and is the stuff of fast-Ford legend. First registered directly to Ford’s Competition Department in Cologne in 1987 before joining the personal collection of F1 driver manager Werner Heinz, its early provenance is second to none. I can tell you firsthand that it delivers all the poise, boost, and raw theater you would expect from the very best RS500’s. Currently Irish registered (European) with just 26,400 fully documented miles on the clock, it presents an exceptionally easy, duty-clear acquisition for collectors across Europe or the UK. On the road, this RS500 is an absolute thrill. The uprated 2.0L Cosworth YB engine, equipped from the factory with its larger Garrett turbocharger, oversized intercooler, and thicker-walled cylinder block spools up eagerly, delivering that unmistakable surge of Group A homologation power through a tight five-speed manual transmission. Presented in its original factory Black hue featuring the iconic double 'whale tail' spoilers and cross-spoke alloys, its road presence is unmatched. In true homologation fashion, Ford delivered these cars with the front fog lights uninstalled in a box in the boot for the owner to fit; remarkably, this car’s original items remain preserved, brand-new in that very box. Inside, the cabin remains beautifully preserved with factory grey Recaro sports seats featuring red chequered centers, pristine trim, and crisp period switchgear. Mechanically, the car has clearly been very maintained. It is fresh from a comprehensive full service in September 2026, during which a new fuel regulator was installed on safety grounds (the original is available). At the same time, the fuel tank was replaced with a new original item purely for aesthetic reasons, as the original tank, which is also preserved with the car had an incorrect aftermarket coating applied to it. This recent work builds on a history of thorough maintenance, including refurbished brake calipers, fresh fluids, an upgraded stainless exhaust system, and Continental performance rubber. The engine bay is impeccably clean, the underside is remarkably sound, and the car starts, runs, and stops with total precision. Accompanying the car is a full set of owners books including its original service book, German delivery documentation, historical MOT certificates, sales brochure, keys, and all preserved original parts. Combining Build #007 factory status, low mileage, Ford Competition provenance, and a fresh September 2026 service, this is a turn-key, investment-grade icon that needs zero immediate outlay. Whether intended for classic rallies, concours events, or as the centerpiece of a serious collection, in my opinion it is one of the finest RS500s available today.
