Description

Jaguar mark IV, 1.5 litre, 1948. An irish car in emerald green. Manufactured in Coventry after World War 2 and then shipped to Ireland in kit form [ckd] to avoid the high import duty on complete cars. Assembled in Frank Cavey Motors, 54 Camden Street, Dublin. The glass for the windows was made in Ireland and still bears the Irish Shamrock emblem. The original jaguar sticker is still on the windscreen with instructions on how to run-in the car. The first owner was Miss Teresa Ferry from Sligo with the registration number EI4957. It was rather unusual for a lady to own a car in those days. The car is not the standard model but rather the special equipment model distinguished by the 2 front fog lamps, the height adjustable front seats, the P80 headlamps and the air conditioning system. The next owner was a vicar and then a soldier who took the car to Europe. It spent many years in Holland but was never registered there. It still had its Sligo number plates. By 1999 it needed restoration. This was done by an expert, Roberto Verboon. In 2015 I bought the car and was proud to bring it home to Ireland. The car got a frosty reception from the Motor Tax authorities in Sligo and Tralee. Through their own slovenly record keeping they had lost all records of the car and on top of that they gave the cold shoulder to all my efforts to have the car put back on the road with its original Irish plates. Such people are slaves to bureaucracy and far removed from any spirit of the law and any fine appreciation of Irish Motoring history. The car is in very good and useable condition. Has been used on dry days and kept garaged. The seats are original leather. The door cards and carpets were changed. The sunroof is original and in perfect working order. The 4 cylinder engine has done 4000 miles since being reconditioned. 27,000 euro or nearest offer.
