Vehicle Overview
Description
Some cars changed everything. The Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk1 is one of them. This is a very late 1983 example, finished in what is believed to be Schwarz Black (L041) — a colour you simply don’t see often on Mk1 GTIs. Most were red, white, or silver. Black suits the car perfectly, and on this example, it presents extremely well. The car has been repainted in the past, but to a very high standard, and it shows. Panel fit is right, decals and stripes are all present and correct, and the overall finish is sharp and consistent. Showing just over 82,000 miles from new, this is a proper, honest car that hasn’t lived the hard life so many of these have. Inside is where it really stands out. Trimmed in the correct grey “Tweed / Campaign-style” cloth, the interior is excellent. These are notorious for worn bolsters and faded fabric — not here. The seats are fresh, supportive, and present exactly as they should. It retains its original gear knob, factory radio, and even the desirable three-gauge centre cluster, which is a lovely period touch. It also benefits from a factory sliding sunroof, making it a particularly well-specced car. Mechanically, it’s just right. It starts on the button, pulls strongly, and drives tight — not like the usual tired Mk1 GTI. The engine bay is clean and presentable, and underneath the car is very good, again reflecting the overall level of care. It comes with good service history and has recently come out of a collection, meaning it hasn’t seen much use over the past five years. As a result, it will undergo a full recommissioning by ourselves to ensure it’s exactly as it should be for its next owner. Back when new, Autocar famously praised the Mk1 GTI for creating an entirely new kind of car — light, responsive, and genuinely fun in a way nothing else at the time was. That DNA is still very much present here. We’ll say it as it is — Mk1 GTIs have settled in the market, and the gap between average cars and proper cars is getting wider. This is a proper car. Spec. Condition. Originality. One of the best examples available at this level, and a car we don’t expect to have for very long.

I recently bought a Jaguar XJS from Simon at Deane Motors and had a very good experience throughout. Simon was great to deal with, responsive and clear in his communication. The car was exactly as described and presented to a high standard, and everything was delivered as promised and on time. The process was straightforward from first enquiry to handover. If you’re looking for a classic car and want a professional, no-hassle experience, I would highly recommend Deane Motors.

I recently purchased an e46, 320Ci off Simon from Deane Motors. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience from start to finish. From the first call on Tuesday to picking up the car on Friday, the process was seamless! Someone who really knows their stuff and values his customers. Would highly recommend to anyone in the market.
