Sold me a japanese import car with japanese tyres (no E-mark on them). I have now failed NCT test 2 years after but in those 2 years I have driven on road illegal tyres. He must have put E tyres on to pass NCT and then put back the japanese ones.
Thankfully I did not need insurance during those 2 years but if I did, I doubt I would be able to use it due to illegal road tyres.

If you are going to buy a japanese import car here, make sure there's an E tyre on it.
