Finally got my car back yesterday evening - 158 days off the road - 446 days since the drivetrain issue was first chased.

Overall, what went wrong for John was a lack of knowledge about plug-in Hybrids, not listening to a genuine customer and a lack of urgency.
These 3 things are the reason for all of the snowballing and mess that followed.

I do sympathise with John for the cost, it was avoidable. I'm sure there has been a huge lesson learned.

I'm changing my review from 1 to 3 stars. I definitely feel this fair, given the circumstances and where things were heading legally.

I still do not have my vehicle back. After being assured it will be ready 16/17th of November. Now over 5 months without my car and nearly 6 months of finance payments.

Despite finding Midlands Carlow to be seemingly a nice dealership, I'm extremely disappointed at everything that has happened since the first week of owning the car (07.09.2022) and still ongoing.

Lack of urgency, knowledge and accountability from Midland has led to a whole host of issues.

I spent half a year chasing an issue, despite me personally bringing the car to multiple BMW Dealerships, that all concluded the same diagnostics. Midland showed little to no sense of urgency on this, until my car ultimately broke down in the middle of the M50 on 24/JUN/2024; A 2018 BMW 530E - I never had that happen to me in my 14 years of driving.

Instead of taking accountability and giving me a like-for-like vehicle or refund, John has refused to do so and has kept me waiting nearly 5 months for a repair and to get my car back (still waiting as of this update).

I've now made 5 finance payments on the car and I haven't had it since the end of June 2023.

I understand that a good deal of the delay is down to BMW parts, however, when I brought the car into BMW on the 12th of April 2022, John refused they fix it. All this could have been resolved months ago. Instead, John told me BMW don't know what they're talking about and made me bring it to his own mechanic. My car ended up spending months there, only for his own mechanic to misdiagnose the issue and then guess what... Ultimately brought back to the same BMW dealership that John had declined - because his mechanic couldn't fix the problem.

I've been constantly getting told "It'll be fixed next week, for at least 3 months now. I've been extremely patient - I've been constantly back and forth with the finance company, SIMI and Consumer Protection.

Long story short, the breakdown was due to a faulty computer system and dead Hybrid battery cell. Despite multiple evidence proving otherwise, John is somehow trying to pin all this on a low-powered dashcam that was installed in Mar 2023. How does that even add up when issues were evident 6 months prior?
The car's system shows that fault codes were cleared prior to me collecting the car. I asked John to confirm what they did during their service before handing it to me, I heard nothing back about this. Again, a serious lack of accountability.

I'm giving two stars and not one because I was at least given a temporary car - a 2014 Mercedes E300. However, because it's been so long (again, going on 5 months), my temporary insurance allowance of 39 days has since lapsed.

This is my first ever loan, I've always bought everything outright.  This has all been an absolute disaster. Don't buy a Hybrid, unless its from a dealership that has proper knowledge about them. What a nightmare. Let's see how this pans out.

John and Sinead were very professional and communicated well with me, from viewing, to purchase and even after sale.
